Computer Update

Just received word today that the container with all of the computers from Computers for Guatemala is shipping June 28th from the United States. I’m not sure when it will arrive here.

How does one ship a container anyways?

Edit: While I’m talking about tech, I might as well mention the updates to the site.

New:
WordPress 2.8 backend
Search – including search phrase highlighting using jQuery
Comment system (using AJAX) – inline commenting, threaded comments, and basically an easier, painless way to post comments -thanks Jim
Interface overhaul – more soothing color setup and more jQuery functions (forms, etc)
Navigation improvements, like the numbered page system at the bottom

— Happy browsing

Visitors from the North!

No, not that north. We finally entertained some visitors in our new place! Another married couple from our program, Jim and Emily, came to our house for a couple of days to enjoy the hot, dry weather and some delicious home-cooked food.

The week started out in the site of another volunteer in our program. She lives in a little town located about 30 minutes south of the department capital (Santa Cruz del Quiché, or more commonly known as “Quiché”, pronounced key-chay), which is about three hours south of us. The new group of trainees for our program will be swearing in July 17th, so there was a panel held to discuss our challenges and how to overcome them. The trainees seem to be pretty calm and ready to be done with training.

Jim also wrote about the experience on his blog as well.

I’ll try to get an update out about our trip to Thea and Semuc Champey in a few days. Take care everyone!
